8 Camping Festival Tips Every Raver Should Know

8 Camping Festival Tips Every Raver Should Know

There’s nothing quite like a camping music festival. Days filled with nonstop music, late-night adventures, sunrise sets, and unforgettable memories with your crew. But between the heat, dust, crowds, and long walks between stages, festivals can quickly go from magical to miserable if you’re unprepared.

Whether you’re heading to Electric Forest, Lightning in a Bottle, Lost Lands or another camping fest, these survival tips will help you stay energized, organized, and ready for the full weekend experience.

1. Hydration Is Everything

The fastest way to ruin your festival is dehydration. Between dancing for hours, hot weather, and walking miles every day, your body burns through water faster than you think.

A quality hydration pack is one of the smartest festival investments you can make. Our tried and true lunchbox hydration pack is a great option to have 2L of water with you along with a TON of space to carry all of your essentials.

Or if you're looking for something more compact, check out the NEW lunchbox hydration sling - a cross body pack with a 1.2L hydration bladder and 8 organizational pockets that sits comfortably on your back or chest.

The right pack helps you stay hydrated without sacrificing comfort or security. It also beats carrying disposable water bottles all weekend!

2. Set Up Camp Like a Pro

Your campsite becomes your home for the weekend, so preparation matters.

Essential campsite gear:

  • EZ-up canopy for shade

  • Heavy-duty stakes (festival winds are no joke)

  • Tapestries or walls for sun protection

  • Battery or solar powered fans. If you want something compact, you can give our electric hyper fan a go! Great for inside the fest and at camp

  • Sleeping pad and air mattresses

  • Extra blankets for cold nights

  • Lanterns or string lights for visibility and to easily identify your site

Pro tip: Arrive early if possible. Better campsite placement can mean shorter walks to stages, bathrooms, and water stations.

3. Prepare for Every Weather Condition

Camping festivals can hit you with blazing heat during the day and even wet or chilly temperatures at night — sometimes within hours.

Pack layers like:

  • Breathable daytime clothing

  • Warm hoodie or pashmina

  • Rain poncho and boots

  • Extra socks

  • Comfortable broken-in shoes

  • Hat and sunglasses

Even desert festivals can become surprisingly cold after sunset.

4. Don’t Neglect Your Feet

You may walk 20,000–40,000 steps per day at a camping festival. Blisters and sore feet can end your weekend early.

Festival foot survival tips:

  • Wear broken-in shoes only

  • Bring multiple pairs of socks

  • Use blister patches before hot spots develop

  • Pack flip-flops for camp (and to use when showering)

  • Stretch before bed

Comfort beats fashion by Day 2 every time.

5. Eat More Than Just Festival Food

Festival vendors are great, but relying solely on expensive fried food can leave you feeling drained. Bring easy campsite snacks like:

  • Protein bars

  • Trail mix

  • Fruit

  • Beef jerky

  • Electrolyte packets

  • Instant oatmeal

  • Peanut butter sandwiches

Having quick fuel available helps you recover faster and save money throughout the weekend.

6. Create a Recharge Routine

Camping festivals are marathons, not sprints. You don’t need to go full speed for 72 hours straight.

Take time each day to:

  • Refill your water sources (hydration packs and reusable water jugs for your campsite)

  • Reapply sunscreen

  • Sit down between sets

  • Eat a real meal

  • Rest in shaded areas

A small recovery break can completely reset your energy.

7. Bring a Festival Survival Kit

Small essentials can become lifesavers at 2 AM. You can store it in one of our smaller packs like a Mini Pack, Lite Pack, or you can simply zip on our extra storage skin to your existing hydration pack!

Your survival kit should include:

  • Portable charger - like our powerbox external battery

  • Earplugs - our sister brand unplugs makes great ones where you don't have to choose between hearing protection and having a conversation!

  • Wet wipes

  • Hand sanitizer

  • Lip balm

  • Sunscreen

  • Gum

  • Mini first aid kit

  • Electrolytes

  • Flashlight or headlamp

  • Naloxone in case you come across someone who may be experiencing an opioid overdose

8. Know Your Meeting Spots

Cell service at festivals can be unreliable. Always establish a main and back up meetup point with your group inside the festival and back at camp. Storefronts or art installations are great potential spots!

Camping festivals are some of the most unforgettable experiences you’ll ever have — but preparation makes all the difference. The right gear, smart planning, and solid hydration strategy can transform your weekend from survival mode into pure enjoyment.

A reliable hydration pack becomes your festival command center: carrying your water, protecting your valuables, and keeping essentials within reach while you focus on the music and memories.

Stay hydrated. Stay organized. Stay ready for the next adventure!
