Your Guide to Attending Music Events Solo

Your Guide to Attending Music Events Solo

Written by Nikki Adams, lunchbox staff

POV: Your favorite artist has a show in your city this weekend, but you have nobody to go with. If you're like me, you've experienced this a countless amount of times. So, let's talk about it– Would you attend the show alone?

For those of you that are on the fence, I get it. But I am living proof to say that it is one of the best things I have ever done! And if any of you need a little push, I'm here to give it to you.

So if you're ready to take on the solo adventure, here's some advice I learned along the way that might help you

Choose the Right Venue

Being at a venue you're familiar with will definitely be easier than navigating a new venue. If you don't have the option to go to a venue that you're familiar with, that's okay! Do the research instead. Checking out a venue's social media, reviews, tagged photos, etc. is a great way to read the vibe. I've also found that Reddit threads are extremely informative in terms of people sharing their experiences at a certain venue.

Stay Alert & Be Aware of Your Surroundings

Don't worry, this is not a warning or a reason to overthink! This applies to any type of show you go to regardless of if you're alone or not. It's always best to make sure that you're not aloof from situations around you – know your drinking limits, stay hydrated with your fave lunchbox pack, read the crowd, and distance yourself from anything that might make you uncomfortable.

Don't Overthink it

I promise, nobody is judging you if you're alone. If anything, more power to you! You're there for the music, and that on its own is enough. Even if you find yourself getting anxious, focus on the performance and dance just like you would if you were with friends!

Be Open to Meeting New People

If you find a group of people that seem to have good/inviting energy, don't be afraid to introduce yourself! I know it can be intimidating at first, but I personally have met some of my best friends because I approached them in a crowd. Remember that you're all there for the music in the first place, and just by that alone you already share something huge in common!

Utilize Social Media to Meet Others in your Position

I can't even begin to express how much I live by this! For me, Twitter is the sole reason I met my friend group. A lot of genres of music have big communities online with so many people connecting because of the shared passion. Just remember to always use good judgment, meet them at the show, and continue to enjoy the night as you would alone!

Enjoy the Freedom

One of my favorite things about attending shows alone is the freedom to explore the night however you want to. Thinking about going up to the front? Do it. Wanna hang low in the back? Do it. The night is yours, so enjoy it without any other distractions! I even catch myself doing this when I'm with a group of friends! Go wherever the vibes take you, you'll never know where you might end up.

I hope that these tips inspire you to go out and take the leap to attend a show solo! Make sure to share your experience with us in our Facebook group or on social @lunchboxpacks !
